I was recently thinking about all the ups and downs of my corporate career and how each moment of that career was preparing me for the business I own today.
As I was reminiscing, I remembered something very specific.
Many years ago, I asked the CEO of a company I worked at if I could take on culture and internal communication (without a promotion or raise, so great deal for the company with absolutely no compensation for me. I just wanted to do it … to make a difference.).
He basically laughed me out of his office.
I felt terrible.
Fast forward to the present day, and that same company (under new leadership) now pays me as a coach and consultant to help them with – wait for it – culture and internal communication.
As I thought about this, I couldn’t help but laugh at the full circle moment.
Honestly, I’m so grateful the first CEO laughed me out of his office.
It was the first sign I needed to move on, and it planted the seed that started my first business.
(So, thank you, sir, for not not seeing my value or the value of my ideas in that moment.)
But, this also serves as a great reminder that what is meant for you will not miss you.
I was always meant to serve this organization in this way. I just wasn’t meant to do it at that moment with that particular leader.
When you feel deeply in your bones that what is meant for you will not miss you, you show up to your business and your life with more ease.
- You don’t worry that someone will say no to your idea or your offer – you believe they will find what they are looking for and so will you.
- You don’t stress about the social content that doesn’t get a ton of likes – you know that your content is landing with the exact people it was meant to serve.
- You stop thinking in terms of ‘what will they think?’ and ‘what if this doesn’t work?’ – you start believing you have value, and your people will see that.
This doesn’t mean it won’t sting or you won’t have opportunities to learn along the way. It simply means you can feel the disappointment, learn the lessons AND know what is meant for you will not miss you.
So … feel free to take this post as a sign that:
- You and your ideas are valuable.
- Your people are out there – looking for you. Ready to work with you.
- Hearing “No” is just part of the journey – it means nothing about you as a human.
- What is meant for you will not miss you – EVER.
