Recently, I came across a bucket list I’d written in my twenties. It had been tucked away with keepsakes—old cards, photos, notes. I paused.
At first, I felt proud—I’d checked off a lot. But I also realized: some of the items felt like they came from someone else. And in many ways, they had.
That list reflected what success and satisfaction looked like to my younger self. And while it mattered deeply then, it doesn’t all resonate with me now. That’s not a problem. That’s growth.
Many of my clients experience this, too. They’re still pursuing goals that once lit them up—but no longer do.
The result? Restlessness, disengagement, questioning.
It happened to me. I know the feeling. There was a time when my goal was to reach the top of the ladder in my corporate career and hit a specific income level. I was proud of that ambition and enjoyed the pursuit.
But now? My goals are different.
Today, I measure success by whether I can earn well while protecting my well-being—mentally, physically, emotionally. And that shift has changed everything about how I lead, work, and live.
So here are a few signs it might be time to redefine what success means to you:
• You feel unfulfilled even when you’re “succeeding” and everything looks good on paper
• You’re hitting goals but feel disconnected from them
• You keep thinking, “There has to be more than this”
• You feel stuck, restless, or bored in a role that used to energize you
• You want to lead, but not the way you have been
If any of this feels familiar, nothing is wrong. You’re simply ready to evolve—and your definition of success needs to evolve with you.
Try this:
- Pause and Reflect: What does success look like to me now? How do I want to feel in my work and life?
- Look for Alignment: Is your current role or leadership style aligned with that definition? If not, what needs to shift?
- Recommit or Redesign: You don’t have to walk away from it all. But you may need to rethink how you lead or structure your next chapter.
When I look back at my old list, I have deep gratitude for the dreamer I was. She helped me get here. And I’m also excited to craft a new vision that reflects who I am now.
You deserve that same space—to reflect, dream, and redefine.
