Six months ago, I did something most entrepreneurs only fantasize about:
I walked away from Facebook and Instagram.
No big announcement. No sabbatical post. I just… left.
And the most surprising part?
I didn’t lose my business.
I didn’t disappear from people’s minds.
I didn’t stop getting consult calls.
In fact — I made more money.
This isn’t a post about how you should quit social media.
But it is a post about what happens when you get radically clear on what’s working, what’s not, and what you actually want your business (and life) to feel like.
📌 Want the full backstory? You can read my original 4-month social media detox update — including why I left and how to take a detox of your own — right here.
As much as I love business strategy, this wasn’t some pre-planned content cleanse or clever brand pivot.
It was a moment of deep alignment.
My entire coaching practice — whether I’m working with leaders or entrepreneurs — is grounded in this belief:
If your success comes at the cost of your well-being, is it really success?
I’ve always coached my clients to honor their energy and protect their nervous systems, especially around social media. And I’ve modeled that in my own business. But over time, the volume crept up. The tabs multiplied. The pressure to “just post one more thing” became constant.
And I realized: it wasn’t enough to pull back. I needed to step away.
I left because I was in tune with myself.
I could feel that even with all my awareness and boundaries, this was becoming too much.
And I trusted myself enough to listen.
I didn’t expect this pause to turn into a real-time experiment in business growth without social media…
But that’s exactly what it became.
Here’s what changed when I stopped dancing for the algorithm and started doubling down on what actually works for me.
Just before my break, I was teaching this principle in a mastermind:
Go where your people already are.
And I was doing that. My clients are absolutely on Facebook and Instagram.
But when I looked at where my most aligned, most ready-to-invest clients spend their time — the answer was clear:
LinkedIn.
That’s where my people — high-achieving women in leadership and business — go to think, share, and connect professionally.
That’s where my presence felt grounded, not performative.
That’s where I could show up consistently without wrecking my nervous system.
So that’s where I went.
Here’s a mistake I’ve made (and watched others make too):
We beg people to join our email lists… and then ignore them.
Why? Because we’re too busy shouting into the void of social media to talk to the people who already said yes.
It’s like inviting your whole neighborhood to a party — and then standing on the front porch waiting for new people to walk by while ignoring the guests in your living room.
During this break, I turned inward.
I launched two biweekly newsletters — one for leaders and one for entrepreneurs.
I stopped chasing likes and started building real trust with the people who already wanted to hear from me.
That shift alone changed everything.
Before this? I liked my offers. They worked.
After this? I love them.
With more space and less noise, I refined what I was selling until it felt like a full-body yes.
I created an entirely new entrepreneur coaching package that I’m proud to lead.
I evolved how I work with my corporate clients and deepened my impact.
And my energy toward selling? Night and day.
When you believe in what you’re offering — deeply — marketing becomes a whole lot easier.
I took a big exhale and remembered: there are so many ways to grow a business that don’t involve posting every day.
I returned to:
And I created one of my favorite resources yet: A list of 100 ways to market your business without social media.
Now, anytime that old voice flares up — “You should be posting!” — I go to the list instead.
I take action that feels good. And it works.
Not at all.
In true Facebook fashion, let’s just say: it’s complicated.
There are people I genuinely missed. Real relationships I value. Some I’ve already reconnected with — others I’ll circle back to.
But here’s what I know for sure:
When I asked myself, “What’s my dream business?”
Nowhere in that vision was “constantly on my phone, endlessly creating content I don’t enjoy.”
My dream business isn’t dependent on social media — but it can use it, strategically and sparingly, when it aligns.
And more than anything, this break reminded me of something I now coach every client to remember:
You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being to succeed.
You can build a business that works for you — not one that constantly demands more from you.
If you’re tired of the hustle, the pressure, or the performative posting… there’s a different way.
